He starts his studies in the capital, but interrupts them and participates in the Polish-Bolshevik war. Then he visits Nawłoć, where he experiences his first love. Finally, he returns to Warsaw, where he takes up a job. Through the fate of young Baryka, we learn about the political and social history of reborn Poland.
